An investigation reviewed over 1,000 AI-generated Instagram influencer accounts and found that creating and monetizing synthetic personas has become trivial using mainstream apps, with roughly 100 accounts sharing deepfake or face-swapped videos (60 disclosing AI origins, 40 not). The report describes industrial-scale operations that train on real photos or mimic celebrities, depress the reach of human creators, and foreshadow a future where AI content eclipses human posts; one prominent account with 171,000 followers was recently removed by Meta.
