Meta Deletes Face-Recognition System From Its Smart Glasses App After WIRED Report

WIRED reported that Meta had quietly integrated substantial portions of an unreleased face-recognition system called NameTag into the Meta AI app, which could create and locally store biometric "faceprints" and cropped images of unrecognized people; after the report, Meta removed the related code from the app version published that day and declined to answer detailed questions about data retention, opt-in/opt-out, and whether a face-profile database existed.
