The ‘Epstein’s Suicide’ Video in the Latest DOJ Release Isn’t What It Seems

An unlabeled 12-second video, circulated alongside newly surfaced DOJ ‘Epstein files’ and initially shared on social media, is likely not an official DOJ recording; a preceding email and WIRED’s review indicate it matches a 2019 YouTube clip described as 3D rendering. An independent journalist says he found the video on the dark web and sent it to investigators in 2021. Although DOJ removed several files for additional review and redaction, the OIG previously reported there was no camera in Epstein’s cell and only one SHU camera recorded due to a DVR malfunction, while metadata from earlier “full raw” surveillance footage releases suggested edits that stitched clips and cut nearly three minutes.
