Criminal groups are increasingly using SMS blaster devices—illegitimate cell-site simulators—to indiscriminately push mass scam texts, with national warnings (e.g., Switzerland’s NCSC) and reports of devices sending around 100,000 SMS per hour in Bangkok; similar to IMSI catchers but repurposed from surveillance to broadcast false signals, these tools let low-skilled operators drive through areas and deliver large-scale smishing campaigns to all nearby phones.
