The ACLU Is Arming Lawyers to Expose State Surveillance Secrets

The ACLU of Massachusetts is releasing a password‑protected online toolkit of handcrafted legal motions for verified criminal defense attorneys aimed at forcing prosecutors and vendors to disclose whether surveillance technologies—such as facial recognition, automatic license plate readers, gunshot detection, stingrays, commercial location data, AI‑generated reports, and phone/car forensic tools—were used in building cases; the toolkit also includes preservation motions to prevent deletion of relevant data and is intended to support legal challenges and pressure jurisdictions to limit or drop such tools.
