Microsoft Unveils LiteBox, a Rust-Based Approach to Secure Sandboxing

Microsoft introduced LiteBox, an experimental open-source library OS written in Rust that sandboxes applications by exposing a minimal interface to the host and supporting unmodified Linux apps. Featuring a split North/South interface, it targets confidential computing scenarios with support for AMD SEV-SNP and OP-TEE, offering stronger isolation than containers with less overhead than full VMs. Positioned alongside gVisor and Firecracker, LiteBox remains experimental with evolving APIs and is aimed at researchers exploring new isolation models rather than immediate production use.
