Palo Alto Launches Frontier AI Critical Defense Program to Scale Virtual Patching

Palo Alto Networks launched the Frontier AI Critical Defense Program to accelerate sharing of vulnerability intelligence and deploy network-level virtual patches before permanent updates can be applied; participants include OpenAI, Anthropic, Mitsubishi, Axis Communications, Health-ISAC, EPRI and the Linux Foundation’s Akrites. The initiative responds to rapid AI-driven discovery (Unit 42’s NOVA found 14,090 confirmed vulnerabilities across open-source projects, ~40% rated high/critical) by converting findings into distributed protections to reduce exposure for critical infrastructure and other environments where immediate patching is impractical.
