NDSS 2025 – PhantomLiDAR: Cross-Modality Signal Injection Attacks Against LiDAR

This report describes PhantomLiDAR, a research demonstration of cross-modality signal injection attacks against LiDAR systems using intentional electromagnetic interference (IEMI). The authors show that internal LiDAR modules can couple with IEMI to produce spoofed, removed, or altered point clouds and even cause power-off, validated on five commercial off-the-shelf LiDARs and in real-world moving tests; the paper also outlines possible sensor- and vehicle-level defenses.
