AI chat bots are sliding into League of Legends friend requests

Malwarebytes documents a widespread AI-assisted social-engineering campaign targeting League of Legends players: throwaway or automated accounts send friend requests immediately after matches, use flirtation and recycled images to build rapport, move conversations to Discord, and then promote OnlyFans-style subscriptions or links that in some cases lead to credential-stealing or account-hijacking pages. The actors appear to operate at scale—possibly scraping match/activity signals and using scripted/LLM-generated messaging with guardrails—so users are advised to treat unexpected friend requests as suspicious, enable privacy/streamer mode, avoid clicking links or sending payments, perform reverse image searches on shared photos, enable MFA on Discord, and report suspicious accounts to Riot and Discord.
